A Spanish judge Friday issued an international arrest order for two former Guatemalan military dictators, Efrain Rios Montt, (Congressman Jerry Weller's Father-in-law and head of the FRG, Weller's wife's politcal party) and Oscar Humberto Mejia Victores, along with five others accused of genocide during Guatemala's civil war.

A ruling by Spain's constitutional court in 2005 allowed its tribunals to hear cases involving crimes against humanity, even if Spanish citizens were not affected.

The director of the Rigoberta Menchu Foundation, Eduardo de Leon, said the failed attempt to hear testimony in Guatemala doesn't prevent the judge from continuing with the case. De Leon said the legal process in Spain wasn't going to stop because the hearings couldn't take place here in Guatemala. The judge has weighed the situation and decided to proceed in this way.

Guatemalan authorities (which include the FRG political party founded by Rios Montt and his daughter and Congressman Weller's Wife, Zury Rios-Montt de Weller) have said the generals cannot be extradited for political crimes committed during the country's 36-year civil war under a 1996 amnesty law.

Of all central Illinois Congressmen, Weller has the toughest stance, has been least friendly in his voting to people seeking immigration, so how ironic is it he's married to an immigrant (and one of questionable moral character - she wouldn't get in under Durbin's Dream Act). His government website says "they reside in Morris, IL.". (They don't, really.) But then there were those legal papers she signed saying she would NOT be seeking U.S. citizenship. Hmmmmmmm... so what exactly is her immigration status???

Rep. Jerry "Wrong Way" Weller (R-11th Il) who claims Morris, Il as his "hometown" even though he hasn't lived there for years now, there is an apartment over a garage he uses as an address. The local Morris paper's managing editor is a staunch Weller defender and protector. They have a poll going on now in the Morris Daily Herald newspaper that is oviously being manipulated by Weller's campaign.

Weller has recieved money directly from Abramoff, from tribes connected to Abramoff, from defense lobbyists and companies connected to Duke Cunningham and money from DeLay's Pac. He's so hot he's smokin when it comes to scandals. Oh, and he's married to Zury Rios Montt, a Guatemalan legislator and leader of a rather corrupt political party, the FRG. The FRG was founded by her father ex-dictator and General Efrain Rios Montt who ruled as part of a military junta in 81 -82. He is also responsible for an act of genocide and the deaths of thousands of indigenous Guatemalan Indians.
